They are known for their distinct physical characteristics, including broad breasts, shoulders, hairless faces, and human-like hands. While primarily vegetarian, they can also develop appetites for termites and ants.
Because of their muscular build and fiery facial features, gorillas are some of the best animals people of all ages love to draw.

This comprehensive guide lets you customize your design and handpick your desired colors. Plus, all you need is a piece of paper and a pencil, and you’re good to go! Have fun and unleash your inner creativity!
How to Draw A Gorilla
Step 1
Starting at the top of the paper, draw a sideways oval shape to structure the top of the gorilla’s head.
To ensure the gorilla is drawn in the center of the paper, create reference lines by drawing an intersecting horizontal and vertical line on the form.
The vertical line above the horizontal line is where you should draw the oval shape.
Step 2
Draw another oval side shape below, overlapping the one we drew in the previous step.
However, the oval shape should be more significant this time than the previous one, as shown in the figure.
Avoid pressing down too hard with the pencil as you sketch the rough sketch of the gorilla’s head. Drawing with light strokes is essential to quickly remove some parts of the outline you don’t need later.
Step 3
Now it’s time to refine the outline of the gorilla’s head, using the connected oval shapes as a guide.
To clarify the structure of the gorilla head, erase the overlapping lines within the two shapes to reveal the final outline. This defines the inner contour of the gorilla’s head.
Step 4
Draw another outline from the previous one, tracing the original shape to define the outer figure of the gorilla head.
Once complete, you should have a parallel outline, as shown in the image.
Step 5
Now that we have completed the structure of the gorilla’s head, we will move on to its body. Draw curved lines just below the head to form a pair of arms.
Remember that gorillas are naturally muscular, so draw muscular arms. Remember to draw a rounded shape for the gorilla’s hands at the bottom of each component!
Step 6
Continue drawing connected curved lines across each gorilla’s wrists to add furry texture to his arms.
This will help make your drawing realistic!
Step 7
Once the upper body is complete, let’s move on to the lower part of your gorilla. Draw a slightly downward curved horizontal line between his arms to outline his chest.
Next, draw another line below our outlined line to structure your gorilla’s abdomen. Now draw two curved vertical lines inclined in opposite directions to draw the visible part of the gorilla’s legs.
Step 8
Draw a rounded shape on each side of the gorilla’s head to form its ears. The gorilla’s ears should be drawn on either side of its head, next to the concavity.
Step 9
Make your gorilla happy by drawing two oval shapes for the eyes with a curved line just above each eye to form eyebrows.
Next, draw two small circles in the center of the gorilla’s face to create the nose. Finally, draw a long line curving upwards to put a big grin on the gorilla’s face. And there you have it: an extremely happy and adorable gorilla!
As you can see, the gorilla drawing is finally done. A touch of color is needed to make the gorilla look vibrant and colorful! Now that we have successfully drawn a gorilla, it’s finally time for the most thrilling part: choosing colors and coloring your drawing!
This is where you can show off your artistic skills and ability to mix and match different colors.
Gorillas are generally black in the skin, and their coat color varies from black and gray to red and tan.
You can colorize your gorilla drawing according to the standards or use a unique color set. Either way, we’re sure your design will come out beautifully!
